New Delhi, December 31: As few hours are left for the new year, a large number of government employees are waiting for good news on the minimum wage hike under 7th Pay Commission. Government officials are positive that as the world enters 2018, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will decide something on minimum wage and the government will not throw them in dark.
The rumours of no minimum pay hike have been faded after the plans of the government to form the high-level committee were revealed by some of the renowned media houses.
Some 18 months back, the committee heading the 7th Pay Commission had asked the government to revise the minimum pay structure for the central government employees increasing the minimum pay from Rs 18,000 to Rs 21,000.
The commission has also recommended that the fitment factor should also be increased from 2.67 to 3.00 times. Recommendation put on the table by the 7th Pay Commission once implemented will also benefit a total of 1 crore working and retired government employees.
The pay hike will benefit 48 lakh government employees and around 52 lakh pensioners.
The news about the formation of a high-level committee to analyze the recommendations made by the 7th Pay Commission came out as a relief for the employees disappointed with the government and it also hinted on a further delay in the decision on the matter.
